The third megawatt unit of Baihetan Hydropower Station successfully passed the 72 hour trial operation yesterday (July 17) and was officially put into operation for power generation. At present, the cumulative power generation of the first two units has exceeded 1 billion kwh.
Baihetan Hydropower Station is located on the Jinsha River at the junction of Ningnan County, Sichuan Province and Qiaojia county, Yunnan Province. The total installed capacity of the power station is 16 million KW, and a total of 16 million KW water turbine generator units independently developed by China and with the largest single unit capacity in the world are installed.
The total investment of Baihetan Hydropower Station is 220 billion yuan. The main project was fully started in July 2017. At present, three units have been put into operation for power generation, and all units will be put into operation for power generation in July 2022. After the power station is completed and put into operation, it will become the second largest hydropower station in the world after the Three Gorges project, with an average annual power generation of more than 62 billion kwh.
