According to foreign media reports, recently, India is facing a power crisis due to a serious shortage of coal and fuel, and the capital is afraid of power failure. In response to this situation, the Indian Ministry of coal issued a statement on the 10th that the country has sufficient coal inventory to meet the needs of the power sector. India's Ministry of electricity also said it had instructed the Ministry of oil to assist in the supply of natural gas to enable the operation of two power plants in Delhi.

India is seriously short of coal

Officials warned New Delhi of a power outage crisis

According to Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao, the data of India's central power grid operators show that more than half of India's 135 coal-fired power plants have less than three days of fuel inventory, and about 70% of India's power supply comes from these power plants.

The analysis data of the daily load dispatching of India's central power grid regulator also shows that India's power supply gap in the first seven days of October alone is equivalent to 11.2% of India's total gap in the whole year.

The report points out that India has entered the holiday season since mid October, and power demand is expected to surge. It is reported that several northern states such as Rajasthan and Punjab have announced power cuts for several hours on the 9th to protect coal supply.

In addition, after the lifting of the new cordon's blockade measures, the resurgence of consumption has brought pressure on demand and supply chains, and the surge in energy prices has also caused global energy supply to be in a tight state.

At present, many Indian officials have warned of the crisis and sought the personal intervention of Indian Prime Minister modi.

In a letter to Modi, Delhi's chief minister kegirival said that the decline in coal reserves was triggering an electricity crisis in the Indian capital. Kegirival said that as of October 5, the coal inventory of at least one power plant had been exhausted, while the coal reserves of other power plants could only last for a few days.

Increase supply

India's coal ministry says there is sufficient inventory to meet demand

India's coal ministry said in a statement on the 10th that India has sufficient coal stocks to meet the needs of the power sector. The state-run Indian Coal Co., Ltd. is using its 40 million tons of inventory to supply coal to power companies, the statement said. These companies have a total inventory of 7.2 million tons, equivalent to four days of demand.

The Indian Ministry of coal also said that monsoon rains affected the coal supply of power plants, and the high global coal prices also reduced the power generation capacity of power companies relying on imported coal.

In a separate statement, the Indian Ministry of electricity said that the coal supply obtained by the power company on the 9th increased to 1.92 million tons, while the consumption on the same day was 1.87 million tons. The statement said that as Indian coal companies are increasing supply, the coal inventory level held by power companies will rise.

In response to the possible power outage in the capital New Delhi, the Indian Ministry of electricity also said that it had instructed the Ministry of oil to assist in the supply of natural gas so that the two power plants in Delhi could operate. The National Thermal Power Corporation of India (NTPC), India's largest power producer, has also been instructed to increase coal inventories at two coal-fired power plants near Delhi to ensure adequate supply, Ministry officials said.
